If you are the kind of PC gamer who never says no to free stuff, and honestly, who is? There is a neat little giveaway worth checking out right now.
Over on IndieGala, you can grab a 100% DRM-free copy of Carlos Taco, and yup, it will not cost you a thing! The catch? There is no clearly stated deadline, so it is one of those “grab it whilst you can” situations!
For anyone who is unfamiliar, IndieGala has been around since 2011 and operates a similar space to Humble Bundle, which you may have used in the past or may still be using, offering discounted games, bundles, and the occasional freebie.
Unlike some giveaways tied to platforms such as Steam, IndieGala’s offers are often DRM-free, which is a nice bonus if you like owning your games outright without launcher dependencies.
As for Carlos the Taco, it is exactly the kind of quirky indie project you would expect from a giveaway like this, in a good way. You play as a taco (yes, you read that right) on a mission to rescue his kidnapped wife after a wedding gone wrong. The premise is ridiculous, and the game leans into the absurdity with a bright, hand-drawn art style and a lighthearted tone.
Gameplay-wise, it is a straightforward 2D platformer. Think simple controls, tight levels, and a few elemental abilities, fire, ice and earth, to mix things up.
It is not trying to reinvent the genre, and honestly, that works in favour. This is a quick, focused experience you can knock out in about an hour or two of gameplay.
The reception has been solid, too. Over on Steam, it holds a “Positive” rating with about 93% of players giving the game a thumbs up. Most players seem to appreciate its visuals, charm, and classic platforming feel.
The main criticism? It is short and mechanically simple, but that is kind of the point.
At the end of the day, Carlos the Taco feels like a bite-sized indie snack, quick, fun and a little weird.
Normally, the game is a cheap pickup anyway, but free lowers the barrier to zero. Worst case scenario, you spend an hour or more on, Best case scenario, you discover a small indie game you might have otherwise skipped.
Either way, it is hard to argue with a price tag of free!
